Tom @Tomtrainsdogs

Tom, co-owner and head trainer at Lake Erie Dogs, has over a decade of experience in the canine industry. He has worked in various environments, including large boarding kennels, grooming salons, dog training facilities, behavior modification centers, and canine daycares.

Tom's passion for dog training began when his family's dog showed aggressive behavior towards him and his brothers. Seeking help, they found a balanced training company and were amazed by the results. Tom was inspired to pursue a career in dog training and was hired on the spot at the training facility where he learned various methods and theories, attended seminars, and gained hundreds of hours of hands-on experience.

Using balanced training techniques, Tom creates effective communication between humans and canines, educating owners to become their own dog's trainer. For Tom, dog training is a vocation, not just a career. He differentiates himself from traditional dog training services by providing holistic training and rehabilitation that result in lifelong results.

Tom is always expanding his knowledge, learning new methods, and loves talking about dogs, music, or movies. Anyone can contact him to chat anytime.

Kay @KayannaMichelle

At Lake Erie Dogs, Tom focuses on training the dogs, while Kay runs the business, caring for, feeding, cleaning, scheduling, and loving on all the dogs that come through their doors. Kay began her career in the canine industry as a dog groomer, where she gained hands-on experience handling dogs, reading their body language, and communicating with them in a way that they could understand.

Kay's passion for helping dogs and their owners coexist to live a better life together led her to Lake Erie Dogs. With a lifetime of experience owning dogs, Kay understands the importance of each family pet to the families they work with. She knows firsthand what it's like to have a dog in a board and train program, and keeps owners up to date with honest updates, pictures, and videos throughout their dog's training journey.

Kay ensures that dogs in their care are healthy, happy, and well-cared for, with a focus on canine nutrition. She creates biologically appropriate meals for the dogs in their care to try. Additionally, Kay has completed a ten-hour course covering all canine first aid needs, including reading signs of pain, CPR, bandaging, gastric torsion, wound care, trauma response, toxins, and seizures. She has also visited kennels across the country and learned from mentors about proper cleaning procedures and sanitation protocols.

Kay's biggest blessing and main concern is the well-being of the dogs in their care. At Lake Erie Dogs, Tom and Kay work together to ensure that every dog receives top-notch training and care.

Meet our pack!

Early on in Toms career he started helping rescues rehabilitate dogs. When working with a rescue, they had a young all white and confident pittie who was gnawing  away at his kennel, making his gums bleed. Tom spent time training Snow to be adopted out. Tom would work him throughout the day, found that he loved the treadmill, and was a very sweet young dog. Tom knew the kennel life wasn't for this guy so he took him home for a night. After testing out the bed and getting to know Drax, Snow never went back, and became a new member of the pack.

Snow is very calm and helps keep dogs company while adjusting to new environments. He shows them that there is nothing to worry about because he is all cool calm and collected.

While Tom was training dogs in Cleveland, one of his clients came upon a lonely wanderer found near the highway. He had no tags, microchip, or any information. Tom took on the responsibility of caring for him while searching for his owner. After a few months of no luck, and whole a lot of bonding time, Tom decided to make this pup his own and named him Drax!

Drax is a very well socialized dog, he is our main guy when introducing new dogs to the pack. He is also great with puppies and teaching them the ropes! He is paid very handsomely with his raw food.

Sasja has been with Kay since she was a puppy. Sasja has a whole lot of personality, loves her mom, loves company, and loves to run aimlessly and bark at things that are not there. Kay contacted Tom, to teach herself and Sasja, how to communicate on a higher level. It changed Kay's and Sasja's relationship completely.  Kay and Tom became intrigued about each others beliefs, Tom was fascinated with Kay's knowledge about feeding a species appropriate diet, as she had been feeding Sasja since she was a pup. Kay was static that Sasja could roam off-leash, thanks to remote collar training from Tom. The two, dog loving individuals, became a team who fell in love with their passions for dogs.

Sasja supports us all by being comforting and playful! She keeps the energy positive and fun getting most dogs eager to play within minutes of meeting them.
