Lake Erie Dogs is a two person show! Tom and Kay opened Lake Erie Dogs together in 2018. They knew from the start that they had a passion for helping people understand this animal so many of us share our lives with. Together they provide a service that is informative and caring, making Lake Erie Dogs an unique family owned business.
Their mission in life is to build a community of educated dog owners who can enjoy life with their well balanced dogs through training and nutrition. Learn more about them individually below!!
Tom is the co-owner and head trainer at Lake Erie Dogs. Tom has been working within the canine industry for over 10 years. He has worked in a wide array of different canine environments before starting his own business in 2016. He has work in large boarding kennels caring for 20-30 dogs, a grooming salon, multiple dog training facilities, behavior modification facilities, and canine day cares.
Toms dog training experience started with his families dog who had showed aggressive behaviors towards him and his brothers. As a family they decided they needed help and found a balanced training company for a board and train to modify his behaviors. Tom was in awe of the results, learning much psychology was involved in the process. Tom began his journey in training dogs, he actually asked for a job and was hired on the spot at said training facility!
He learned multiple methods, researched theories, attended seminars, trained at different facilities gaining hundreds of hours of hands on experience while learning from professionals in the industry who have been doing it for years. After ten years in the dog world he has an arsenal of techniques that can help any dog. Using balanced training methods Tom creates a line of communication between human and canine that both can understand. Educating owners and training them to be their own dogs trainer is his goal.
Dog training isn't a career to him its a vocation. Tom separates himself from traditional dog training services because he strives to provide an educational service that results in lifelong dog training results by training and rehabilitating dog holistically. He is always learning new methods and expanding his knowledge. He is as much as a people person as he is a dog person, contact him to chat anytime he loves talking dog, music, or movies!
Tom trains the dogs, Kay runs the business. At Lake Erie Dogs, she cares, feeds, cleans, schedules and loves on all the Lake Erie Dogs who come through our door. She started her career in the canine industry as a dog groomer. She gained hands on experience handling dogs, reading body language, and communicating with canines in a way they understood. She soon realized how much she could help dogs and owners coexists to live a better life together.
Having had dogs her entire life she knows just how important each family pet is to the families we work with. She knows what it is like to have a dog in a board and train, (its hard!) so she keeps owners up to date with honest updates, pictures, and videos. Kay ensures dogs are healthy, happy, and well cared for during their stay with us throughout their training journey. She has a passion for canine nutrition and is always making something biologically appropriate for the dogs in our care to try!

Early on in Toms career he started helping rescues rehabilitate dogs. When working with a rescue, they had a young all white and confident pittie who was gnawing away at his kennel, making his gums bleed. Tom spent time training Snow to be adopted out. Tom would work him throughout the day, found that he loved the treadmill, and was a very sweet young dog. Tom knew the kennel life wasn't for this guy so he took him home for a night. After testing out the bed and getting to know Drax, Snow never went back, and became a new member of the pack.
Snow is very calm and helps keep dogs company while adjusting to new environments. He shows them that there is nothing to worry about because he is all cool calm and collected.
While Tom was training dogs in Cleveland, one of his clients came upon a lonely wanderer found near the highway. He had no tags, microchip, or any information. Tom took on the responsibility of caring for him while searching for his owner. After a few months of no luck, and whole a lot of bonding time, Tom decided to make this pup his own and named him Drax!
Drax is a very well socialized dog, he is our main guy when introducing new dogs to the pack. He is also great with puppies and teaching them the ropes! He is paid very handsomely with his raw food.
Sasja has been with Kay since she was a puppy. Sasja has a whole lot of personality, loves her mom, loves company, and loves to run aimlessly and bark at things that are not there. Kay contacted Tom, to teach herself and Sasja, how to communicate on a higher level. It changed Kay's and Sasja's relationship completely. Kay and Tom became intrigued about each others beliefs, Tom was fascinated with Kay's knowledge about feeding a species appropriate diet, as she had been feeding Sasja since she was a pup. Kay was static that Sasja could roam off-leash, thanks to remote collar training from Tom. The two, dog loving individuals, became a team who fell in love with their passions for dogs.
Sasja supports us all by being comforting and playful! She keeps the energy positive and fun getting most dogs eager to play within minutes of meeting them.
